I live my life by the philosophy “act justly, love mercy, walk humbly” (Micah 6:8). This is reflected in my community involvement and commitment to protecting the rights of others. I treat each client with compassion, respect and the attention they deserve.
I have been a licensed attorney for 14 years and understand what it means to work hard to make your dreams a reality. While working full time and raising a family, I pursued my dream of becoming an attorney with fierce determination. I first obtained my Associate's Degree with Highest Honors as a Legal Assistant from Tarrant County College in Hurst, Texas. I then received my Bachelor of Business Administration from Northwood University in Cedar Hill, Texas, graduating Summa Cum Laude with the Provost Award and Outstanding Achievement Award and two of my children in tow. I was then accepted into the SMU Dedman School of Law four-year evening program where I graduated with my Juris Doctor in 2008 in Dallas, Texas.
During my law school years, I became heavily involved in the promotion of human rights. I traveled to Manto, Honduras on numerous occasions for mission work. I served on SMU’s Human Rights Committee and traveled to Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa with faculty, students and community members to witness reparation efforts since the end of Apartheid. I was selected to conduct a presentation at SMU regarding the genocide in Darfur, Sudan and I lobbied our representatives locally and in Washington, D.C. to support international human rights’ initiatives.
As a student attorney in SMU's Criminal Justice Clinic, I successfully defended indigent clients in criminal court and witnessed first-hand the shortage of legal services available to our immigrant community. After taking the Texas Bar Exam, I interned in the Child Abuse Division at the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office and interacted with undocumented victims of domestic abuse who felt they had no where to turn for fear of deportation.
My passion for human rights persists. I am currently pursuing my LLM (Masters in Law) in Human Rights from the University of London to deepen my understanding of international law and the plight of refugees. Besides advocating for immigrant rights, I campaign against domestic violence, child abuse and human trafficking. I love my faith and family passionately and am actively involved in my church, my children’s school and delivering meals to the homebound.
I have practiced immigration law in a pro bono capacity since 2009. I focus primarily on family-based immigration and humanitarian relief, including asylum and relief under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Because of the need for honest, affordable and compassionate legal representation in this area of immigration law, I (with the support of my loving family and friends) founded the Law Office of Rebecca M. Vasquez, P.C. in 2018 to serve the underrepresented.
